Description
This Christmas Snowman Cheese Ball is a festive no-cook holiday appetizer made with cream cheese, sharp cheddar, ranch seasoning, and a snowy coating of finely shredded Jack cheese. A baby carrot and peppercorns create the classic snowman face, making it a fun make-ahead centerpiece for Christmas parties.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 (8 oz) blocks cream cheese, at room temperature
- 3 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, at room temperature
- 1 (1 oz) package ranch seasoning mix
- 1 1/2 cups finely shredded Jack cheese
- 1 baby carrot
- Whole peppercorns, as needed for decorating
- Crackers, for serving
Instructions
- Let the cream cheese and shredded sharp cheddar cheese come to room temperature so they blend smoothly.
- Add the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and ranch seasoning mix to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Mix until evenly combined.
- Divide the cheese mixture into two portions, using about one-third for the snowman head and two-thirds for the body.
- Place each portion on a separate sheet of plastic wrap and shape into a round ball.
- Wrap tightly and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight, until firm.
- Right before serving, unwrap the chilled cheese balls and press the finely shredded Jack cheese over the surfaces to create a snowy coating.
- Place the larger cheese ball on a serving plate, then gently set the smaller cheese ball on top to form the snowman.
- Slice the tip from the baby carrot and press it into the head to make the nose.
- Use whole peppercorns to create the eyes, mouth, and buttons.
- Serve the Christmas Snowman Cheese Ball chilled with crackers.
Notes
- The shaped cheese balls can be prepared and refrigerated up to 3 days ahead.
- Add the shredded Jack cheese coating and snowman decorations shortly before serving for the freshest appearance.
- Finely shredded cheese adheres better than thick shreds and creates a more snow-like finish.
- Keep the cheese ball refrigerated until close to serving time so it stays firm.
- Whole peppercorns are decorative and have a strong flavor, so guests may prefer to remove them before eating.
- Serve with crackers, pretzel crisps, toasted baguette slices, or fresh vegetables.
- Nutrition values are approximate and do not include crackers or other dippers.
