Description
These festive Christmas Tree Cupcakes combine rich chocolate cupcakes with fluffy green buttercream frosting, decorated with sprinkles and star toppers to resemble mini Christmas trees. Perfect for holiday parties, family baking, or festive dessert tables.

- 1 box chocolate cake mix (e.g., Betty Crocker)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups unsalted butter, softened
- 10 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 10 tablespoons heavy cream
- Pinch of salt
- Green gel food coloring (to desired color)
- Star sprinkles (for tree topper)
- Christmas pearls or sprinkles (for tree decorations)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C) and line a cupcake tin with cupcake liners.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, vegetable oil, eggs, and water. Mix until smooth.
- Scoop the batter into cupcake liners, filling each about 3/4 full (approx. 1/4 cup per cupcake).
- Bake for 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a stand mixer, beat the butter until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add powdered sugar (1 cup at a time) and heavy cream (1 tablespoon at a time), mixing on low and increasing speed once incorporated.
- Add vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and green gel food coloring until you reach your desired tree shade. Mix until smooth.
- Transfer frosting to a piping bag fitted with a 1M tip. Pipe frosting in a circular, upward motion to create a tree shape on each cooled cupcake.
- Immediately top each frosting tree with a star sprinkle and decorate with holiday pearls or sprinkles.
Notes
- Let cupcakes cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
- Use gel food coloring for vibrant color without thinning the frosting.
- If frosting is too soft, add more powdered sugar. Too stiff? Add a bit more cream.
- Add sprinkles immediately after piping while frosting is still soft for better adhesion.
- Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
