Description

Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins are soft, fluffy, bakery-style muffins coated in a buttery cinnamon sugar topping, delivering the classic flavor of cake donuts in an easy baked form.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • For topping: 1/4 cup (57g) unsalted butter, melted
  • For topping: 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • For topping: 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line or grease a 12-cup muffin tin.
  2. In a large bowl, mix melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add egg and vanilla extract, whisking until fully combined.
  4. Stir in buttermilk until the mixture is smooth.
  5. Add baking soda, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon, mixing well.
  6. Gradually fold in the flour until just combined; do not overmix.
  7. Divide batter evenly into muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full.
  8. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. While baking, prepare topping by melting butter and mixing cinnamon with sugar in separate bowls.
  10. Let muffins cool for 5 minutes, then remove from pan.
  11. Dip each muffin top into melted butter, then roll in cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.
  12. Cool slightly on a wire rack and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep muffins soft and fluffy.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for better consistency.
  • Double-dip in butter and cinnamon sugar for a thicker coating.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Freeze without topping for best results and coat after reheating.
