Description

Old-fashioned Cream Cheese Mints are soft, creamy, melt-in-your-mouth candies flavored with peppermint and vanilla. These easy no-bake mints are perfect for weddings, baby showers, holidays, parties, and homemade candy trays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 oz (113 g) brick-style cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter, softened
  • 4 cups (500 g) powdered sugar, plus extra as needed for shaping
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring, optional

Instructions

  1. Beat the softened cream cheese and butter with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
  2. With the mixer on low speed, gradually add 2 cups of the powdered sugar and mix until completely incorporated.
  3. Add the peppermint extract and vanilla extract and mix until evenly combined.
  4. Gradually add the remaining powdered sugar while mixing on low speed. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed. The dough should become very stiff and should not feel sticky. Add additional powdered sugar if necessary.
  5. If using food coloring, mix it into the entire batch or divide the dough into separate bowls and tint each portion individually.
  6. Roll the dough into teaspoon-sized balls and arrange them on a wax-paper-lined baking sheet.
  7. Dip the tines of a fork into powdered sugar, then gently press each ball to flatten it and create a decorative pattern.
  8. Allow the mints to dry at room temperature for about 3 hours, or until firm enough that they do not squish when gently pressed.
  9. Transfer the finished Cream Cheese Mints to an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Use brick-style cream cheese rather than spreadable cream cheese from a tub for the best texture.
  • If the dough remains sticky, gradually add more powdered sugar until it reaches a firm, play-dough-like consistency.
  • For molded mints, roll each portion in granulated sugar before pressing it firmly into a candy mold.
  • Store the mints in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • For longer storage, freeze the mints in an airtight container with wax paper between layers.
  • Peppermint extract can be replaced with other concentrated extracts such as almond, lemon, or orange for different flavor variations.
