Description

These easy patriotic fruit kabobs made with watermelon stars and blueberries are a festive, healthy, and beginner-friendly treat perfect for summer holidays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium seedless watermelon
  • 12 pints large blueberries
  • Wooden skewers

Instructions

  1. Cut the watermelon in half and place the flat side down on a cutting board. Slice off the rind completely to expose the pink flesh.
  2. Slice the watermelon into ¾ inch thick rounds, ensuring they are thick enough to hold their shape but thin enough for cutting.
  3. Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out star shapes from each slice. Save the leftover pieces for snacking or smoothies.
  4. Rinse and dry the blueberries thoroughly.
  5. Assemble each skewer by alternating watermelon stars and blueberries as desired.
  6. Place completed kabobs on a tray, cover with plastic wrap, and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Don’t cut watermelon too thin or stars may break when skewering.
  • If watermelon is too thick, cutting stars will be difficult.
  • Bananas can be used, but they brown quickly unless dipped in lemon water.
  • A melon baller or paring knife can be used if no cookie cutter is available.
