Description

These easy Starbucks-style cake pops are beginner-friendly, budget-conscious, and perfect for any occasion. Made with cake mix, powdered sugar, and candy melts, they’re simple, fun, and taste just like the original.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box vanilla cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box: typically water, oil, and eggs)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 oz light pink candy melts
  • White nonpareil sprinkles (optional)
  • 24 lollipop sticks

Instructions

  1. Prepare and bake the cake mix according to the box instructions. Avoid overbaking for best texture.
  2. While still warm, crumble the cake into a mixing bowl or stand mixer.
  3. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then mix until a soft dough forms that holds together.
  4. Roll the mixture into balls and place on a lined baking sheet.
  5. Freeze the cake balls for 15–30 minutes or refrigerate for at least an hour.
  6. Melt the candy melts according to package directions. Add a small amount of oil if needed to thin.
  7. Dip each lollipop stick in melted candy, then insert halfway into each cake ball. Chill again to set the stick.
  8. Pour melted candy into a tall glass. Dip each cake pop fully, gently tapping off excess coating.
  9. Immediately add sprinkles if using, and place upright to dry (in foam or a cardboard box).
  10. Once set, serve or store at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Notes

  • Use a slightly underbaked cake for better texture and easier binding.
  • If the candy melts are too thick, add 1 teaspoon of coconut or vegetable oil.
  • Chilling the pops after inserting sticks prevents them from falling off during dipping.
  • You can freeze finished cake pops for up to 3 months; thaw at room temperature before serving.
  • Try flavor variations like chocolate cake with mint extract or funfetti with almond coating.
