Description

Fig Honey Butter is a smooth homemade fruit preserve made with fresh figs, honey, lemon, and warm spices. This flavorful fig spread is perfect for toast, yogurt, desserts, cheese boards, and seasonal breakfasts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds fresh ripe figs: provides natural sweetness, fruity flavor, and the base texture of the butter
  • 1 cup water: helps soften the figs while cooking
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice: adds brightness and balances sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest: enhances the fresh citrus aroma
  • 1 cup honey: adds natural sweetness and complements the fig flavor
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon: creates a warm spiced flavor
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves: adds depth and earthy spice notes
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice: provides a cozy seasonal flavor
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt: enhances and balances the overall taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the fresh figs, remove the stems, and cut the figs into quarters for easier cooking.
  2. Add the figs, water, lemon juice, and lemon zest to a large pot and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Stir in the honey, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and salt, then reduce the heat to a gentle simmer.
  4. Cook the figs for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the fruit becomes very soft and the mixture thickens.
  5. Blend the cooked fig mixture with an immersion blender until smooth and creamy, or leave some texture if preferred.
  6. Continue cooking the blended mixture for about 10 minutes over low heat until it reaches a thick spreadable consistency.
  7. Allow the Fig Honey Butter to cool before transferring it into clean jars or airtight containers. Store in the refrigerator or freezer.

Notes

  • Use ripe, soft figs for the best natural sweetness and smooth texture.
  • The sweetness can be adjusted depending on the ripeness of the figs and personal preference.
  • For a different flavor, try adding ginger, cardamom, walnuts, or pecans.
  • This recipe is not a tested shelf-stable canning recipe; refrigerate or freeze for safe storage.
  • Frozen figs can be used, but extra cooking time may be needed to remove excess moisture.
