Description

Garlic Butter Rice is a flavorful and comforting side dish made with long-grain rice, fresh garlic, butter, and savory chicken broth. This easy recipe delivers fluffy rice infused with rich garlic butter flavor and topped with crispy garlic and fresh green onions, making it the perfect accompaniment to chicken, beef, seafood, and vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups long-grain white rice
  • 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and cook, stirring constantly, until golden brown and crispy. Remove the garlic and drain on paper towels.
  2. Discard most of the oil, leaving a small amount in the pan. Add 2 tablespoons of butter and allow it to melt.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 1/2 minutes until fragrant and lightly golden.
  4. Add the rice and stir well to coat every grain in the garlic butter mixture.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and stir gently. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Reduce the heat to low, cover with a lid, and cook for 12 to 15 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed.
  7. Remove the pan from the heat and let the rice rest, covered, for 10 minutes.
  8. Fluff the rice with a fork. Stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and sliced green onions.
  9. Season with salt and white pepper to taste.
  10. Top with the crispy garlic and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor and aroma.
  • Do not burn the garlic, as it can become bitter.
  • Allow the rice to rest after cooking for the fluffiest texture.
  • Vegetable broth can be substituted for chicken broth for a vegetarian-friendly version.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Add a splash of broth or water when reheating to restore moisture.
  • For extra richness, stir in an additional tablespoon of butter before serving.
