Description

These heart accents for cupcakes are a fun and easy way to elevate your baked treats. Made from red and pink candy melts, they’re perfect for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or any celebration where a touch of love is needed. This simple recipe is beginner-friendly and requires no baking — just melt, pipe, set, and decorate!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup red candy melts: provides vibrant color and glossy finish
  • 1/2 cup pink candy melts: adds contrast and romantic tones
  • 1 disposable piping bag: used for precision piping of heart shapes
  • 1 large sheet parchment paper: surface for piping and easy release after setting
  • Painter’s tape (as needed): keeps parchment paper flat and secure
  • 1 tall glass: stabilizes piping bag while filling
  • Scissors: used to snip piping bag tip

Instructions

  1. Place red and pink candy melts in separate microwave-safe bowls.
  2. Microwave at 50% power in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth.
  3. Place a piping bag in a tall glass, fold the top over the rim, and pour in the melted candy.
  4. Secure a sheet of parchment paper to a baking sheet using painter’s tape.
  5. Snip a small tip off the piping bag or use a piping tip for more detail.
  6. Pipe heart shapes or designs directly onto the parchment paper.
  7. For two-tone hearts, let the first color set for 10 minutes, then pipe a second color over or around it.
  8. To create word-filled hearts, pipe reversed letters first, allow to set, then pipe a heart over them.
  9. Allow all shapes to fully harden at room temperature (about 15–30 minutes).
  10. Gently peel off the heart accents and place on frosted cupcakes before serving.

Notes

  • Use oil-based food coloring if substituting white chocolate for candy melts.
  • Store finished accents in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • Best used with firmer frostings like buttercream or ganache.
  • Let kids help with design for a fun, creative baking activity.
