Description

This homemade Thanksgiving stuffing is a flavorful and easy-to-make side dish that complements any Thanksgiving feast. Made with fresh white bread, vegetables, and chicken broth, this stuffing is moist yet firm, providing the perfect balance of texture and flavor. Ideal for busy holiday gatherings, this recipe brings a comforting, homemade touch to your meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of white bread (torn into small pieces)
  • 4 stalks of celery (chopped)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 14 oz can of chicken broth
  • 1/2 stick butter (4 tbsp)
  • 1 tbsp sage (fresh or dried)
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Tear the loaf of white bread into small pieces and let it dry out overnight on a baking sheet or use the quick oven method at 200°F for 30 minutes.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped celery and onion and sauté for 10 minutes until soft. Add the sage, salt, and pepper.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the dried bread with the sautéed vegetable mixture. Gradually add the chicken broth, stirring to moisten the bread without making it soggy.
  5. Let the stuffing sit for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a medium-sized baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30-45 minutes. Remove the foil during the last 10 minutes of baking to allow the top to crisp up.

Notes

  • Make sure not to add too much chicken broth to avoid a soggy stuffing. The bread should be moist but not drenched.
  • For a variation, try adding sautéed mushrooms, sausage, or dried cranberries for added flavor and texture.
  • Let the stuffing sit before baking to help the flavors meld together better.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
