Description

Jalapeno Popper Mummies are spooky, cheesy Halloween appetizers made with jalapeno peppers filled with a seasoned cream cheese mixture, wrapped in crescent dough, and finished with edible eyes. Perfect for parties and easy to prep ahead.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 jalapeno peppers, sliced in half lengthwise and seeds removed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 8 oz Monterey jack cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 12 oz Pillsbury crescent rolls
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten with 1 Tbsp water (for egg wash)
  • 40 small candy eyeballs or sliced black olives

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking tray with foil and lightly spray with cooking spray.
  2. Slice the jalapenos in half lengthwise and remove seeds and ribs for milder heat.
  3. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, Monterey jack cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  4. Spoon the cheese mixture into each jalapeno half evenly.
  5. Unroll crescent dough and press together perforations to form 4 rectangles. Slice each rectangle lengthwise into 10 strips (40 total).
  6. Wrap each stuffed jalapeno with 2 dough strips, leaving space for eyes.
  7. Place on the prepared baking tray and brush lightly with egg wash.
  8. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Immediately after baking, press two candy eyes (or olive slices) onto each mummy.
  10. Let cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

  • For less spice, remove all seeds and white ribs from the jalapenos.
  • You can prep the mummies ahead and refrigerate, then bake just before serving.
  • Sliced black olives can replace candy eyes for a more savory touch.
  • Try other cheeses like cheddar or pepper jack for variation.
