Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pack thick-cut bacon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon water
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 baguette
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper
- 4 or 8-ounce log of goat cheese
- Hot honey, maple syrup, or regular honey
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil and place an oven-safe rack on top.
- In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and water. Mix well.
- Place bacon slices on the prepared baking sheet and coat both sides with the brown sugar mixture. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if desired.
- Bake for 15 minutes, flip the bacon, and continue baking for another 10-15 minutes until crispy. Remove from the oven and let the bacon cool on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C). Slice the baguette into ½-inch slices and place them on a baking sheet. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Bake the crostini for 7-10 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Let them cool for about 30 minutes.
- Place the goat cheese log on a serving platter. Break the cooled bacon into small pieces and press them into the cheese log. Drizzle with hot honey, maple syrup, or regular honey.
- Serve the crostini on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes for desired spice level.
- For a lighter version, use low-fat goat cheese and a lower-sodium bacon option.
- Store leftover bacon and crostini in airtight containers for up to three days.
