Description

Mini Cheese Ball Pretzel Bites are creamy, savory, bite-sized appetizers made with cream cheese, sharp cheese, cheddar, and seasonings. Each mini cheese ball is coated with crunchy pecans, sweet dried cranberries, and fresh parsley, then served with a pretzel rod for an easy-to-grab party snack. These no-bake appetizers are perfect for Christmas parties, Thanksgiving gatherings, potlucks, and game days. Prepare them ahead of time and add the coating and pretzels just before serving for the best texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 jar Kraft Old English sharp cheese spread
  • 1 1/2 cups medium cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt, scant
  • 1 teaspoon onion salt, scant
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise, heaping
  • 2 cups pecans, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • Medium pretzel rods or thick pretzel dipping sticks, as needed

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the pecans and set them aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sharp cheese spread, grated cheddar, garlic salt, onion salt, lemon juice, and mayonnaise. Stir until smooth and evenly combined.
  3. Shape the cheese mixture into small, evenly sized balls and arrange them on a platter or tray.
  4. Cover the cheese balls and refrigerate for 10–15 minutes, or until firm. They can be prepared up to 48 hours ahead and kept covered in the refrigerator.
  5. Meanwhile, combine the chopped pecans, dried cranberries, and fresh parsley on a shallow plate.
  6. Roll each chilled cheese ball in the pecan mixture, gently pressing the coating onto the surface and reshaping the balls as needed.
  7. Insert a medium pretzel rod into each cheese ball just before serving. Arrange on a platter and serve chilled or slightly softened.

Notes

  • Use softened cream cheese to achieve a smooth, lump-free filling.
  • Medium pretzel rods or thick pretzel dipping sticks work best because thin pretzel sticks may break easily and provide less crunch.
  • Prepare the cheese balls up to 48 hours ahead, or 2–3 days ahead if stored properly, but add the coating shortly before serving for the best texture.
  • Insert pretzel rods immediately before serving to prevent them from becoming soft.
  • Finely chop the pecans and dried cranberries so the coating adheres evenly.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator at 40°F (4°C) or below and consume within 3–4 days, provided they have been handled safely.
  • Freezing is not recommended because cream cheese may become grainy or release moisture after thawing.
  • For a nut-free variation, use a suitable alternative coating and prevent cross-contact if serving guests with allergies.
