Description

Mulberry Jam is a sweet, rich, and easy homemade fruit preserve made with fresh mulberries, sugar, lemon juice, and pectin. This flavorful jam is perfect for spreading on toast, pairing with desserts, or storing for long-term use.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh mulberries (washed and stems removed)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 packet (about 3 oz) liquid pectin
  • 1 packet (about 8 g) vanilla sugar or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Wash the mulberries thoroughly and remove any stems or debris.
  2. Place 2 cups of mulberries in a medium saucepan over medium heat and gently mash them to release their juices.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil while stirring occasionally.
  4. Add 2 cups of granulated sugar and 1 packet of vanilla sugar, then stir continuously until fully dissolved.
  5. Pour in the lemon juice and mix well to balance the sweetness and aid the setting process.
  6. Bring the mixture back to a rolling boil, then reduce heat slightly.
  7. Add 1 packet of liquid pectin while stirring constantly.
  8. Allow the jam to simmer for 5โ€“10 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens.
  9. Test the consistency by placing a small amount on a chilled plate; if it wrinkles when pushed, it is ready.
  10. Sterilize glass jars by boiling them in water for a few minutes.
  11. Pour the hot jam into the sterilized jars, leaving a little space at the top.
  12. Seal the jars tightly and allow them to cool at room temperature until fully set.

Notes

  • Use ripe mulberries for the best natural sweetness and flavor.
  • Stir frequently during cooking to prevent burning or sticking.
  • Skim off any foam that forms on top for a smoother jam.
  • If you prefer less sugar, replace 1 cup with a natural sweetener like stevia.
  • Store sealed jars in a cool, dark place for up to 2 years.
  • Refrigerate after opening and consume within 2โ€“3 weeks.
