Description

Patriotic Berry Trifle is a festive no-bake dessert made with layers of vanilla pudding, whipped topping, sour cream, pound cake, fresh strawberries, and blueberries. Perfect for Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and summer gatherings, this red, white, and blue dessert is easy to prepare, serves a crowd, and can be made ahead of time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boxes (3.4 oz each) instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 8 cups whole milk
  • 32 oz sour cream
  • 16 oz whipped topping (2 containers, 8 oz each)
  • 2 vanilla pound cakes, cut into bite-sized cubes (about 32 oz total)
  • 4 pints fresh strawberries, sliced lengthwise
  • 4 pints fresh blueberries, washed and drained

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 4 boxes of instant vanilla pudding mix and 8 cups of whole milk until smooth and slightly thickened.
  2. Fold in 32 oz sour cream and 16 oz whipped topping until fully combined and creamy.
  3. Cut the pound cakes into bite-sized cubes and slice the strawberries lengthwise.
  4. Spread a layer of pudding mixture in the bottom of a large trifle bowl.
  5. Add a layer of cubed pound cake over the pudding.
  6. Add a layer of blueberries followed by sliced strawberries, pressing some strawberry slices against the glass for decoration.
  7. Repeat the layers of pudding, cake, blueberries, and strawberries until the bowl is full, creating approximately 4 complete layers.
  8. Decorate the top by arranging strawberry slices in a star pattern and filling the remaining space with blueberries.
  9. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  10. Serve chilled and store leftovers in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Use only fresh berries for the best texture and presentation.
  • Store-bought pound cake helps reduce preparation time.
  • Start each layer with pudding to help stabilize the trifle.
  • A clear glass trifle bowl showcases the colorful layers beautifully.
  • The trifle can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance.
  • Refrigerate leftovers and consume within 2 days for best quality.
  • Angel food cake may be substituted for pound cake if desired.
