Description

This homemade Peach Jam is made with ripe peaches, sugar, and lemon juice for a naturally sweet preserve without pectin. Perfect for canning or refrigerating, it captures the fresh flavor of summer peaches and can be enjoyed on toast, biscuits, pancakes, yogurt, and desserts throughout the year.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Blanch the peaches in boiling water for 30 seconds, then transfer them to an ice bath. Peel off the skins, remove the pits, and chop the peaches into chunks.
  2. Add the chopped peaches, sugar, and lemon juice to a large saucepan.
  3. Mash the peaches with a potato masher or blend them with an immersion blender until the desired texture is reached.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently.
  5. Continue cooking and stirring until the jam thickens and reaches the desired consistency, about 15 to 25 minutes.
  6. Test the jam by placing a small spoonful on a chilled plate. If it wrinkles and holds its shape when pushed, it is ready.
  7. Ladle the hot jam into sterilized half-pint jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace.
  8. Wipe jar rims clean, apply lids and rings, and process in a boiling water bath canner for 10 minutes.
  9. Remove jars and allow them to cool completely. Check seals before storing.

Notes

  • No commercial pectin is required for this recipe.
  • Use fully ripe peaches for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
  • If doubling the recipe, increase the cooking time to approximately 35 to 45 minutes.
  • Store sealed jars in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year for best quality.
  • Opened jars should be refrigerated and used within a few weeks.
  • The jam can also be frozen in freezer-safe containers for up to 6 months.
