Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Casserole is a rich, cheesy, and comforting dish made with seasoned ground beef, sautéed bell peppers and onions, and a creamy sauce topped with melted provolone cheese. It’s an easy, low-carb dinner perfect for busy weeknights or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lb ground beef (85/15 lean ratio)
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 3 large bell peppers, thinly sliced (mixed colors)
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (low sodium)
  • 6 slices provolone cheese (about 4 oz)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef with salt and black pepper, breaking it apart until fully browned (about 8–10 minutes).
  3. Add the sliced bell peppers and onion to the skillet. Stir in Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Cook for 10–15 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  4. Add the softened cream cheese and chicken broth. Stir until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
  5. Transfer the beef and vegetable mixture into a large baking dish and spread evenly.
  6. Layer provolone cheese slices on top, slightly overlapping.
  7. Bake for 10–15 minutes until the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
  8. Remove from oven, let rest for a few minutes, then serve warm.

Notes

  • Drain excess grease from the beef for a lighter casserole.
  • Soften cream cheese before adding to ensure a smooth sauce.
  • Broil for 1–2 minutes at the end for a golden cheese topping.
  • Substitute ground turkey or sliced steak if desired.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze unbaked casserole for up to 3 months for easy meal prep.
