Description

This easy Philly Cheesesteak recipe combines juicy ground beef, tender peppers and onions, creamy provolone cheese, and toasted hoagie rolls for a hearty and satisfying sandwich perfect for quick family dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 large sweet onion, chopped
  • 6 oz provolone cheese, diced or shredded
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 6 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the ground beef, chopped onion, and green bell pepper for 8-10 minutes until the beef is browned and the vegetables are tender.
  2. Drain excess grease from the skillet to keep the filling from becoming oily.
  3. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to the beef mixture and stir well.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir in the softened cream cheese and milk until smooth and creamy.
  5. Add the provolone cheese and stir continuously until fully melted and gooey.
  6. Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise and lightly toast them if desired.
  7. Spoon generous portions of the Philly Cheesesteak filling into each roll.
  8. Optional: Add extra provolone cheese on top and broil for 2-3 minutes until melted.
  9. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease while keeping the filling flavorful.
  • Toast the hoagie rolls for added texture and to help prevent soggy sandwiches.
  • You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella, white American cheese, or cheddar.
  • Add mushrooms or jalapeños for extra flavor variations.
  • Store leftover filling separately from the bread for the best texture when reheating.
  • The filling can be frozen for up to 3 months in an airtight container.
