Description

These Puff Pastry Pesto Christmas Trees are the perfect festive appetizer—crunchy, cheesy, and full of herby basil pesto flavor. Easy to prepare in under 30 minutes, they make a beautiful and delicious addition to any holiday table or party spread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 roll Puff Pastry: provides the flaky, buttery texture
  • 34 tablespoons Basil Pesto: adds vibrant herb flavor and festive green color
  • 2 tablespoons Parmigiano cheese, grated: adds nutty, salty richness
  • Optional: Skewers for presentation and stability
  • Optional: Cheese cut-outs (stars) for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on parchment paper to avoid sticking.
  3. Spread the basil pesto evenly across the entire sheet using a spoon or spatula.
  4. Sprinkle grated Parmigiano cheese on top of the pesto layer.
  5. Use a sharp knife or pastry cutter to slice the pastry into 1-inch (2.5 cm) wide strips.
  6. Fold each strip in a zigzag shape to form a Christmas tree. Insert a skewer vertically if desired.
  7. Transfer the shaped trees to a lined baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
  8. Bake for 10–15 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Cool slightly before serving. Optionally, top with cheese stars for decoration.

Notes

  • Do not overfill with pesto to prevent leaking during baking.
  • Use cold puff pastry for best results—keep it chilled until use.
  • To reheat, place in a 200°C (400°F) oven for 3–5 minutes to restore crispness.
  • Great served with dipping sauces like marinara or garlic aioli.
