Description

Red White and Blue Cookies With M&Ms are soft, chewy patriotic sugar cookies packed with red, white, and blue M&Ms, chocolate chips, and festive sprinkles. Perfect for Fourth of July parties, Memorial Day celebrations, summer cookouts, and holiday dessert tables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup red, white, and blue M&Ms
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons patriotic sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 cup softened butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup brown sugar for about 2 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.
  4. Add 1 large egg and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Fold in 3/4 cup red, white, and blue M&Ms and 3/4 cup chocolate chips by hand.
  7. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them a few inches apart.
  8. Press a few extra M&Ms onto the tops of the cookies and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons patriotic sprinkles.
  9. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden while the centers remain soft.
  10. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for several minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Do not overbake the cookies; the centers should remain slightly soft when removed from the oven.
  • Use room-temperature butter and egg for the best texture.
  • Mix the M&Ms gently to avoid cracking the candy shells and bleeding colors into the dough.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze baked cookies for up to 3 months between layers of parchment paper.
  • White chocolate chips can be substituted for regular chocolate chips.
