Ingredients
Scale
- 1½ pounds Italian sausage
- 1 (5-ounce) bag mini pepperoni
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 2 (14.5-ounce) cans beef broth
- 1 (24-ounce) jar spaghetti sauce or marinara sauce
- 1 (8-ounce) container onion and chive cream cheese, softened
Instructions
- Brown the Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles. Cook until no longer pink, then drain excess grease.
- Transfer the cooked sausage to the slow cooker.
- Add the mini pepperoni, minced garlic, dried minced onion, Italian seasoning, sugar, tomato paste, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beef broth, and spaghetti sauce.
- Stir all the ingredients together until well combined.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours.
- Shortly before serving, add the softened onion and chive cream cheese.
- Stir until the cream cheese melts and blends into the soup. Whisk gently if needed for a smoother consistency.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning as desired. Serve hot with shredded mozzarella, fresh basil, or garlic bread.
Notes
- Brown the Italian sausage before adding it to the slow cooker for better flavor and less excess grease.
- Sweet Italian sausage is recommended. Ground beef or ground turkey can be used as alternatives.
- Choose your favorite jarred spaghetti sauce or marinara sauce.
- Chicken broth can replace beef broth.
- Allow the cream cheese to soften before adding it to help it melt smoothly.
- Add mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, or olives for extra pizza-inspired flavor.
- For a spicier soup, use hot Italian sausage or add crushed red pepper flakes.
- For a lower-carb variation, choose a no-sugar-added marinara sauce and reduce or omit the added sugar.
- If adding pasta, cook it separately and stir it in shortly before serving to prevent it from becoming mushy.
- Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days and reheat gently.
- Check product labels to confirm gluten-free suitability if needed.
