Description

This Strawberry Sundae is a classic, easy dessert made with a homemade strawberry sauce, creamy vanilla ice cream, and delicious toppings. Fresh strawberries are cooked into a sweet and slightly tangy syrup, then layered with ice cream and finished with whipped cream, nuts, and sprinkles for a refreshing and indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (454 g) fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/4 pound (113 g) fresh strawberries, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) water (for cornstarch slurry)
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 4 scoops (about 2 cups) vanilla ice cream
  • 1 ounce (28 g) chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) whipped cream
  • 2 tablespoons sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Wash, dry, and hull the strawberries. Slice them evenly, reserving 1/4 pound for garnish.
  2. Add 1 pound of sliced strawberries to a saucepan with sugar, lemon juice, and 1/4 cup water.
  3. Heat over medium-high, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 3–4 minutes until strawberries are softened but still hold their shape.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water until smooth.
  6. Stir the cornstarch slurry into the strawberry mixture and cook for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  7. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool for at least 10 minutes.
  8. To assemble, spoon strawberry sauce into the bottom of serving glasses.
  9. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the sauce.
  10. Drizzle more strawberry sauce over the ice cream.
  11. Top with whipped cream, chopped nuts, sprinkles, and reserved fresh strawberries.
  12. Serve immediately and enjoy.
