Description

Three Cheese Baked Macaroni is a rich and creamy comfort food made with tender elbow pasta, a velvety cheese sauce, and a golden baked topping. This classic oven-baked dish combines cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan for the ultimate cheesy flavor and satisfying texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, then whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.
  4. Gradually add the milk while whisking continuously until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.
  5. Add the cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses, stirring until fully melted and creamy.
  6. Season the sauce with salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  7. Mix the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until evenly coated.
  8. Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  9. Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top if desired for a crispy topping.
  10. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and bubbly on top.
  11. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Cook pasta al dente to prevent it from becoming mushy after baking.
  • Use freshly grated cheese for a smoother and creamier sauce.
  • Add a splash of milk when reheating to maintain creaminess.
  • Breadcrumbs can be toasted with butter for extra flavor and crunch.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
