Description

Valentine’s Shortbread Hearts are a delightful and festive treat made with just five ingredients. These buttery, crumbly cookies are dipped in white or milk chocolate and decorated with sprinkles, making them perfect for Valentine’s Day or any celebration of love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 150g Plain flour – used to bind the dough and create structure
  • 100g Unsalted butter (softened) – provides rich flavor and melt-in-mouth texture
  • 50g Caster sugar – adds sweetness
  • 50g Milk chocolate – for dipping and decoration
  • 50g White chocolate – adds visual contrast and sweetness
  • Valentine’s sprinkles – festive decoration

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the flour and use your hands to bring the mixture together into a dough.
  3. Wrap the dough in clingfilm and chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 160°C fan / 180°C conventional.
  5. Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough to 0.5cm thickness.
  6. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to stamp out hearts and place on a lined baking tray.
  7. Chill the cut-out hearts for 30 minutes before baking.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes until pale golden. Cool on the tray.
  9. Melt milk and white chocolate in separate bowls in 30-second microwave intervals, stirring in between.
  10. Dip half the hearts in milk chocolate and the other half in white chocolate.
  11. Decorate with sprinkles and allow to set for 20–30 minutes on a wire rack.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough twice is essential to prevent spreading and maintain shape.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • You can freeze unbaked dough and bake from frozen with slightly increased bake time.
  • Use good-quality butter for best flavor.
