Description

This creamy baked Vidalia Onion Dip combines naturally sweet Vidalia onions, cream cheese, mayonnaise, and freshly grated sharp white cheddar into a rich, golden, bubbly appetizer. It’s easy to prepare, perfect for parties, holidays, game days, and family gatherings, and pairs wonderfully with chips, crackers, toasted bread, and fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Vidalia onions, diced or finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sharp white cheddar cheese, freshly grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Dice or finely chop the Vidalia onions.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped onions, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, freshly grated sharp white cheddar cheese, and black pepper.
  4. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  5. Transfer the mixture into a lightly greased oven-safe baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
  6. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the dip is hot and bubbly around the edges.
  7. Allow the dip to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  8. Serve warm with tortilla chips, pita chips, crackers, toasted baguette slices, bagel chips, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • Freshly grate the cheddar cheese for the smoothest texture and best flavor.
  • Either diced or finely chopped Vidalia onions work well because they soften while baking.
  • Substitute another sweet onion if Vidalia onions are unavailable.
  • Prepare the dip up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerate before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in a 350°F oven or microwave until warmed through.
  • Freezing is not recommended because the creamy ingredients may separate after thawing.
