Description

No Bake Caramel Pretzel Crack Bars are a rich sweet-and-salty dessert made with crushed pretzels, buttery caramel, and a smooth chocolate topping. These easy no-bake bars are perfect for parties, holidays, and make-ahead treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups mini pretzels, coarsely crushed
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt flakes, optional

Instructions

  1. Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. Spread the 3 cups of coarsely crushed mini pretzels evenly across the bottom of the prepared pan to form a solid base.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk, 1/2 cup unsalted butter, and 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar.
  4. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and bubbling. Continue cooking for 3 to 5 minutes, until slightly thickened.
  5. Remove the caramel mixture from the heat and stir in 1/2 cup caramel sauce until fully combined.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the pretzel layer and spread it gently with a spatula so the pretzels are fully covered.
  7. Melt 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips until smooth, then pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer.
  8. Spread the chocolate evenly with a spatula and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon sea salt flakes if desired.
  9. Refrigerate the bars for at least 2 hours, or until the chocolate is firm and the layers are fully set.
  10. Lift the bars out of the pan using the parchment paper overhang, cut into 16 squares, and serve.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the caramel mixture or the bars may become too hard after chilling.
  • For neat slices, chill thoroughly and wipe the knife clean between cuts.
  • Store the bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Freeze in layers separated with parchment paper for up to 2 months.
  • For a gluten-free version, use certified gluten-free pretzels.
